ROTTERDAM 2042 - CONNECTED CITY HARBOUR

ROTTERDAM

Rotterdam in 2042 is a bustling metropolis, in which port and city are intertwined by both physical and virtual flows. Physical flows of energy, materials, goods, people and virtual flows such as knowledge, information and money are continuously exchanged between port and city. The waste streams of one program or process form the inputs for another: industrial waste feeds the houses in the city, knowledge and workers develop the port, raw materials and goods cross the city and boost the local economy before flowing through to the hinterland. Water is held within the city and filtered and carries new material flows back to the harbor.
