Deze wordt gekenmerkt door daglichttoetreding via twee gevels, namelijk de originele buitengevel en een in de renovatie toegevoegde glazen binnenpui grenzend aan een gemeenschappelijke vide. De wens om de algemene leefruimte optimaal te voorzien van daglicht resulteerde in een plattegrond waarbij de aanvullende functies compact zijn samengevoegd in het donkere deel van het appartement. Door in de plattegrond een splitsing aan te brengen tussen diverse verblijfgebieden en aanverwante opslag ontstaat een binnengang die door de plaatsing haaks op de daglichttoetredende gevel fungeert als lichte functionele overgangszone. De meest private ruimtes als slaap- en badkamer krijgen een positie in het midden van de gang zodat onnodige inloop wordt beperkt. De werkkamer, entree en keuken krijgen een meer directe verbinding met de leefruimte. Deze indeling resulteert in een ruimtelijke samensmelting van nieuwe elementen aan het bestaande waarbij kenmerkende authentieke elementen, zoals balken en kolommen die dit appartement karakteriseren, beeldbepalend blijven. ST JOB

ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

The design for the apartment situated in the St Job complex in Rotterdam, responds to the closed character of the existing building.
By bringing in a division between the diverse living areas and the adjacent storage, an inner corridor is created. The corridor is situated perpendicular to the fa├žade, and works as a light functional transition zone.

The most private areas like the bedroom and the bathroom are situated halfway in the corridor, thereby creating a more private realm. The study, entrance and kitchen are more openly connected to the living space. This positioning results in a spatial merge of new and existing elements, whereby the distinctive authentic roof beams and columns, that characterise this apartment, remain the determining elements.
