In the Netherlands, because of the heavy winter seas, beach pavilions are traditionally disassembled for the winter and stored inland. On the first of April each year they are transported back to the beach for re-assembly.
Beach Pavilion
By making a few simple adjustments to the beach pavilion typology, the structure can be transported inland and used for a different function for the cold winter months. Some of the changes include fitting the toilet block with a shower, increasing the insulation value and turning the pavilion into a non-directional object thereby making it suitable for any location.
The pavilion migrates twice a year, from the beach to an inner city or rural location. Possible winter uses include a pancake pavilion, a ski hut or a shelter for the homeless.
