ADAPTIVE URBAN STRATEGIESROTTERDAM, UNEMBANKED AREA
The Rijnmond-Drechtsteden has a substantial unembanked area. The region has the ambition to transform these areas into dense mixed-use urban developments. These areas will likely experience an increased risk of inundation by rising sea levels and extreme river discharge. The extent of this increase is uncertain, however, the residual risk increases. To find a safe and sustainable way to live and work in these areas it is necessary to develop strategies and evaluate measures that either reduce the risk of flooding or adapt to the results of flooding. Resilience is the central theme of the research.
